Dr. Ercole CavalieriCavalieri

Professor, Eppley Institute for Cancer Research and Allied Diseases at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska

  • Born in Milan, Italy, Dr. Cavalieri  attended the University of Milan, Milan, Italy, D.Sc. in Chemistry, 1956-1962.
  • Dr. Cavalieri is also Professor and Director of the University of Nebraska Center for Environmental Health and Toxicology, University of Nebraska Medical Center.    
  • Dr. Cavalieri has been the principal investigator for more than 20 grants and a co-investigator for eight grants including, but not limited to: Molecular Origin of Cancer: From PAH to Estrogen Quinones” from May 1996-April 2001, “Molecular Origin of Cancer: Catechol Estrogen-3,4-Quinones” from July 2001 to June 2005, both program project grants from NCI, Breast Cancer Center of Excellence grant “Estrogen-Induced Depurination of DNA:  A Novel Target for Breast Cancer Prevention” from the US Army from April 2003 – April 2007 and “Role of Estrogen Metabolism in the Initiation of Prostate Cancer: Biomarkers of Susceptibility and Early Detection” from the US Army from May 2002 – April 2005.
  • Dr. Cavalieri was involved in the following patents: Antigenic conjugates of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons to nucleosides, Synthesis of estrogen-purine base and estrogen-mercapturate adducts and development of fluorescent probes and monoclonal antibodies to assay those adducts, Synthesis of estrogen-mercapturate adducts and development of fluorescent probes and monoclonal antibodies to assay those adducts.
  • A recipient of a number of honors and awards, Dr. Cavalieri has received the following awards: Damon Runyon Memorial Fund Fellowship, 1968 – 1970, Co-editor of the JNCI monograph “Estrogens as Endogenous Carcinogens in the Breast and Prostate”, 27, 2000, from the International Symposium held March 16-17, 1998 at Westfields International Conference Center, Chantilly, VA; Outstanding Research and Creative Activity Award, University of Nebraska, 1994; UNMC Distinguished Scientist Award, 2007.
  • Dr. Cavalieri is the author of over 200 peer-reviewed scientific articles.

Dr. Eleanor RoganRogan

Professor, Eppley Institute for Research in Cancer and Allied Diseases at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska

  • Dr. Rogan attended Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. From 1959-1953 receiving her A.B. in Biochemistry.  She then received her Ph.D. in the Department of Biology from John Hopkins University in 1968.
  • Dr. Rogan is also Chair, Department of Environmental, Agricultural and Occupational Health, College of Public Health, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Neb.
  • Dr. Rogan has been a principal investigator for six grants, co-investigator for more than 15 grants and a program leader of three grants.  These grants include but are not limited to:  "Initiation of Breast Cancer: Activated Catechol Estrogens" awarded by the U.S. Army for the period 1996-1999;  “Initiation of Human Breast Cancer:  Enzymes Involved and Early Detection” awarded by the Cancer Research Foundation of America for the period July, 2000 to July, 2002, and. Breast Cancer Center of Excellence grant “Estrogen-Induced Depurination of DNA:  A Novel Target for Breast Cancer Prevention” from the US Army from April 2003 – April 2007.
  • Dr. Rogan was involved in the following patents: Antigenic conjugates of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons to nucleosides, Synthesis of estrogen-purine base and estrogen-mercapturate adducts and development of fluorescent probes and monoclonal antibodies to assay those adducts.
  • A recipient of a number of honors and awards, Dr. Rogan has received the following awards: Co-editor of the JNCI monograph “Estrogens as Endogenous Carcinogens in the Breast and Prostate”, 27, 2000, from the International Symposium held March 16-17, 1998 at Westfields International Conference Center, Chantilly, VA; The Twelfth Linus Pauling Functional Medicine Award, The Institute for Functional Medicine, 2006; UNMC Distinguish Scientist Award, 2007.
  • Dr. Rogan is the author of nearly 200 peer-reviewed scientific articles.

 

Dr. Ryszard JankowiakJankowiak

Professor, Department of Chemistry, Kansas State University (KSU), Manhattan, Kansas

  • Born in Pniewy, Poland Dr. Jankowiak received his bachelor of science in Physics from SN-II College, his masters degree in Solid State Physics and his Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics. 
  • Dr. Jankowiak is a member of the Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan.
  • Dr. Jankowiak was involved in the following patents: CE-FLNS system and Method and Apparatus for Ceramic Analysis.
  • A recipient of a number of honors and awards, Dr. Jankowiak has received the following awards: 2009 Outstanding Senior Scientist Award from the Scientific Research Society Sigma Xi, K-State Chapter; R&D 100 Award (1998) for the development of CE-FLNS System; Iowa State University Professional and Scientific Excellence Award, 1993 and International Cancer Technology Transfer (ICRETT) Award; Geneva, Switzerland, 1993   
  • Dr. Jankowiak is also involved in a number of different selected services including, but not limited to: Kansas State University Research Foundation, Board of Directors; Advances in Analytical Chemistry, Editorial Board Member, 2008 and Honorary Editorial Board member: Analytical Chemistry Insights, 2005.
  • In addition, Dr. Jankowiak published over 200 papers in refereed journals including several invited reviews and nine book chapters. He has presented at seminars throughout the world at various universities in Poland, Germany, Denmark, Czech Republic, Austria, Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy, Switzerland, Great Britain, Holland, Taiwan, Denmark, China, Japan, Spain, Canada. and the United States. Dr. Jankowiak participated in international meetings, and conferences in various areas of physics, biophysics, and physical/bioanalytical chemistry.
